Like most good ideas in Hua Hin, this one started over a cold beer.
At Fiji Bula Sports Bar, owner Kordy kept coming back to a simple thought: instead of just sitting at the bar together every week, why not get outside, get a bit fitter, and build something that lasts?
He shared the idea with close friends John Williams and his wife Naoko. A post went up on the Hua Hin Expats Facebook page. The response was bigger than anyone expected. Soon, John and Naoko's beachside living room was packed with people keen to try touch rugby.
The first formal meeting was held at Fiji Bula, where long-term residents and new arrivals helped shape what would become the Hua Hin rugby group. Organisers like Alan, Marty Collins, Peter, and Geoff put the foundation in place.
Saturday sessions became the heart of it all. Players of all ages — kids, adults, beginners and experienced heads — turned up to run, pass, laugh, and cool off in the sea afterwards. John and Naoko opened their home for post-game gatherings. Kordy's then-wife Noi kept everyone fuelled, turning up with drinks on her bike.
What started as "let's do more than just drink" grew into a proper community. Even though Kordy moved away in 2020, the group carried on and kept growing. More regular players joined. Families and kids became part of the routine. The team started travelling to tournaments around Thailand.
The best thing about this rugby group is that everyone can play — including children and ladies. That's what makes it fun and enjoyable.
To reflect the club's growth, we're moving forward under a refreshed identity: the Hua Hin Harlequins. New name, new kit, committee of 7, tournament calendar. 2026 is the year we take everything to the next level — and we want local businesses to be part of it.
Members contribute 100 THB weekly toward pitch costs — this subsidizes any gaps. Kit and merch are sold to members at fair prices. Once inventory sells out, profits go back to the club fund.
Sponsorship funds: initial kit production, tournament fees, advertising campaigns, merch inventory, and club operations. This isn't charity — it's building something real.
